I should still be able to work on my yard and garden, which I enjoy doing. I'll be watching the Red Sox out on my screen porch, and at Fenway one more time, and I'll probably get out to Beehive Field in New Britain when Portland comes through.
On the cultural side, there's always the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival. I'll be there. Feel free to come up and say "hi!".
And we hope to get away to the Cape for a week.
What will you all be up to?
Where do you stay on the Cape? We have a house in Chatham, right on Oyster Pond and a short walk from downtown. I've seen a few Tolland teachers around town over the past couple of years. It's so nice to sit at the beach and read all day...it even makes Return of the Native more bearable (although it really isn't too bad once you meet the characters)!
ReplyDelete-Sarah Anischik
We like Eastham. (Chatham is too crowded for me.) But we usually get down their one day for shopping. And I have been down to see the Chatman A's once or twice.
ReplyDeleteWe actually just went to an A's game a couple nights ago. They're having a really good season so far...I think they only have one loss. They even have two players from UConn on the team, so it's really exciting to watch.
ReplyDelete-Sarah Anischik
My family and I visit Eastham every year in the summer! It is our favorite place on the Cape, although I do enjoy going to Chatham as well to shop! We are expecting to return to the Cape in August sometime, after our cross-country trip in July.
ReplyDeleteMr. MacArthur, maybe I will see you on the beach in Eastham one day!
~Julia
Hi, Mr. MacArthur! I hope that your summer is going well so far!
ReplyDeleteFor the entire first week of MY summer, I was at Eastern Connecticut State University participating in Girls State. It was a very long (and slightly boring) week, but it had its moments. All in all, I'm glad that I took part in the Girls State program at ECSU because there I was elected Secretary of the Nationalist Party, and I made some incredible new friends from all over the state of Connecticut.
This summer, I will also be spending a week in North Carolina, but other than that, I'll be relaxing at home, spending time with my new puppy, searching for a car, getting my tan on at the beach, and taking part in any other fun activities that come my way!
Stay cool! This heat wave is insane.
- Liz Elliott
Not doing anything with my summer except sitting out reading...and writing, of course. I love how low-maintenance summer is, and when something does happen, its kind of spur of the moment, and not on your calendar for weeks like during the school year.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone had a fun Fourth of July. I had two nights of barbeque, desserts and fireworks with my family; four of my favorite things (fireworks ties for first with desserts!)
Summer so far hasn't been that exciting. I've successfully switched my sleeping schedule so I sleep to 3 in the afternoon and stay up until 6 in the morning. I guess that's a pretty big accomplishment. I've also been attempting to finish up my drivers ed classes. Hopefully I'll be road worthy by the start of school. My driver's test is scheduled for August 18th and I'm so pumped. Watch out if you see me driving though, cause I'm a magnet for almost accidents. I have habit of taking too sharp of turns and not looking before entering a road. But besides that I'm a pretty good driver.
ReplyDeleteBesides those things I really haven't accomplished much. I've played some tennis here and there, hung out with friends a couple times, got a haircut... it's been pretty laid back.
--Melissa Kenney
Summer has been pretty great so far! I've thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in every Friday because I have work all other days. Otherwise it is just soccer and relaxing. Oh, how I love summer! Also have been looking at colleges! Very excited but also sad. I don't want to grow up! Anyways summer has treated me well so far, hope it has done the same for you!
ReplyDelete-Kristen Tetreault
My mom and I just got back from a week-long tour of colleges all over the coast. There are so many beautiful schools that it will be very hard deciding which one to attend! Besides that I've spent my time reading, swimming, and having a good time with friends. Unfortunately I have to start writing college essays soon. Ugh. I hope everyone else is enjoying this hot summer!
ReplyDeleteMr. M - Are you at the cape in your "at the beach" picture up at the top? Those dunes look familiar!
ReplyDeleteI've spent the majority of my summer so far working and hanging out. I somehow managed to survive that heat wave with no AC - our old house has nothing but a housefan. Let's just say our pool has never been more appreciated than it has this summer.
I agree with Kristen, college searching is exciting but sad.
-Billy Sprout
My summer has been super busy! The week after school I went on a weeklong vacation to see the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Las Vegas and a bunch of other places out west! I highly recommend a trip like mine if you don't mind 110 degree weather (at least theres no humidity!) and relatively long car rides to each place. The weeks after I've been reading all the summer books and visiting colleges just like most of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy excited though, because in less than a week I'm going away to Maine for three weeks of band camp!!! Its a long chunk of my summer gone without cell phones and internet, but I love seeing everyone after such a year apart and actually love the lack of modern convieniences! The downside is I won't be able to post after finishing Return of the Native, and will probably need to start my essay out on paper instead of the computer (but its totally worth it!).
I hope that everyone has an awesome next couple of weeks while I'm away!
Marissa L.
have fun at band camp, Marissa. is Julie F. going too?
ReplyDeleteMarissa I am currently doing something very similar to what you did! Our moms surely must have talked about it, but I can't believe we never did! My family right now is on a western cross-country trip ourselves. We saw Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, San Francisco, Yosemite, all along the coast of California with San Diego at the end, then Las Vegas, and our final destination is Grand Cannon, where I am now. I highly recommend that everyone tries to travel out west because it is so different out here and made me realize how big this world truly is! But like Marissa said, it is very hot ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, Marissa I will have to meet up with you in the neighborhood soon and ask you how your experience went! Mine is going great so far, and it's a family experience I will never forget! Everyone needs to travel out West if you haven't yet!
~Julia Lachut
P.S. I haven't been able to get to a computer with internet, though, and that's why I haven't done the blog in awhile. I have had plenty of time to read the books, though, and I am almost done! I would've liked to blog as I was reading, but I have to make due now and complete my blogging when I get home...
I hope everyone else's summer is going great so far!
Happy summer everybody!
ReplyDeleteThis summer has been very odd, since this is the first summer in nine years that I did not attend camp. I've been keeping very busy, however, with summer reading, rehearsals for TYSCT's "The Music Man" (we are performing at THS on July 30 and 31- come see it!!!), and spending one week in North Carolina. We went to Asheville and Boone, where we did lots of hiking and white water rafting. Besides enjoying the sunshine and great weather, I'll also be doing some college searching and getting some college stuff done.
I can't wait to see everybody come September...although at the same time I hope it doesn't come too soon! =]
-Dylan Schiff
P.S. Liz- where in NC did you go?
I have had hardly any free time. Constant traveling between parents' houses, family visits, and volunterring at the Eastern State daycare. The last two weeks of my summer I'm going to Florida (learning to scuba dive :) ) and Rhode Island. I have been reading the school books and being annoyed by my 4 year old half brother. Hope everyone else is enjoying their summers and enjoying the books (or not).
ReplyDeleteCorri Swart
Reading about everyone's summer just made me very happy. Julia, I want to hear more about your road trip. It must have been such a fun experience, especially because you were gone for so long.
ReplyDeleteI am currently eating a pickle and reminiscing on summer so far. Tomorrow is the first day of August, I can't believe it! This week feels like the first week I have been in Connecticut.
When school first got out, I spent a lot of time in the pool and at graduation parties. I went on vacation to Newport Beach, California with my aunt and her family for a year-early graduation present! It was my first plane ride alone and quite lonely. Once I was there, though, the waves were humungous and we had a blast. The next week I was in New Hampshire for a church camp. I made a lot of great friendships. The week after camp, my family went to visit my sister in Rochester. We went to the zoo and the Museum of Play!
Finally, I'm home. I've had more time to blog and read. I'm mostly looking forward to cutting my hair in a couple weeks and relaxing now.
Hope everyones summer is going well.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm sitting in my aunts house waiting for people to get up to go to Veince beach so I can do more photography. I've been here for a little over a week. I've just been hanging out here so far; going to the beach and doing photography that I post on my website. (which is www.flickr.com/kristinaporter - if anyones interested)
Before I was here I was in Amman, Jordan for two weeks. I was there because my cousin had her wedding there. It was an amazing experience. It is quite a westernized country but its also very different. It made me appreciate America a lot more.
I come home from California on tues, the 2nd of aug. and then I'm home for a bit then I'm going to D.C. because my aunt is having a baby. which is quite exciting.
Then I may be going to Maine with a friend for a couple days.
As you can see my summer's been and will be very hectic. Its nice, however I do miss home and my friends a lot.
-Kristina Porter
DYLAN - I WAS IN MAGGIE VALLEY AND WAYNESVILLE! But I flew from Hartford to Charlotte and then Charlotte to Asheville! I was right there too!
ReplyDelete- Liz Elliott
Kristina - When I was in North Carolina I saw a group from Jordan dance at this international festival that they had down there called Folkmoot. The group from Jordan definitely was the best out of all of them, and my uncle and aunt now want to travel to Jordan. Would you recommend that they go?
ReplyDeleteHi Mr. MacArthur! Erin wanted me to tell you she said hi. :) How's your summer going so far? I can't believe it's already August. Summer's going by so fast.
ReplyDeleteI started my summer with a vacation to TN. My grandparents live there and we go water skiing, tubing and swimming. Currently, I'm volunteering at a tennis camp that Mr. Emerson directs. I've volunteered there for three years now. Prior to that, I did the camp. It's for young tennis players. Many of the kids have never played tennis before, but they're really cute! So that makes up for their lack of skill. In a week or so, I'll be going to Acadia, Maine with my family. We go camping every summer there. Two days after we return home, we take Erin back to school in Ohio. So we're pretty busy up to the beginning of school.
Where do we press "pause" on our summer? If anyone figures it out, let me know. :)
Liz- I haven't seen Molly all summer! I thought you were going to walk her by my house that next week. I miss her. I need to see her pretty puppy face! This is quite crucial to my health... :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is pretty safe to say that my summer is very similar to Jessi's. Being that going to TN was a family trip, I too went there I will also be going on the Acadia and Ohio trips. I am doing the tennis camp as well. It's a fun way to get kids to start enjoying the game and hopefully they will pursue the sport in their futures.
ReplyDeleteI too have been looking at colleges. Not as much as you, Olivia:) I saw your mom at the store about a month ago and she was telling me about the trip you just took and the trip you were about to take-all for colleges. Did you end up going to Hershey Park?
Anyway towards the end of the summer the beginning of school always starts to excite me and I'm starting to get that feeling now so I can't wait to stat my senior year!
SUNKEN GARDEN POETRY FESTIVAL. HIGHLIGHT OF MY ENTIRE SUMMER/life.
ReplyDeleteliz - yeah they should. its nice there and an awesome experience. probably a good country to go to if you want to see the middle east.
ReplyDeletei stayed in Amman which is the city part. i didnt go much out of there other than the wedding and when i went to the red sea and Petra (one of the 7 wonders of the world) apparently Accaba is nice as well. if they decide to go there they should amke sure that they DO NOT drive. driving there is insanely horrible and hectic.
What has Jen been doing this summer? Ummm in three words...THE MUSIC MAN! Since the day after school got out my life has been Music Man Music Man Music Man. It was awesome! I designed the sets and with help from many awesome people, built them in my garage. Then I was set crew for the actual show. It was a lot of fun and the shows both went well.
ReplyDeleteNow that that's done I have this week to do nothing (except work 3 days this week) and then next week is vacation! That's about it so far for my summer.
Hope everyone else is having amazing summers!
-Jen Rankin
My summer has been packed with college tours to a few tours and the Music Man production with TYSCT. Since July started, I'd been working on creating the sets for the Music Man, which was a lot of fun! Then for the actual show, I was stage crew, which was very fun as well. This was the first year that I have ever done this and found it to be a great experience. I also was a very very minor part in it for the first scene which was a shock to me since I hate being in front of audiences.
ReplyDeleteNow that that's done with, I went on a few college tours (which isn't very exciting). Hope everyone else's summer is going well!
My summer has been so busy!!! Besides working almost every day, I have had to spend a lot of time looking at colleges and beginning to write essays. Luckily, this past week I was able to vacation in Misquamicut, Rhode Island with my family. But now it's back to the real world and I have a lot of work to catch up on!
ReplyDelete-Dakota Gagliardi
I was able to go to Lady's Island is South Carolina. We were right next to the Paris Island Marine base (Troy, they are calling), and was able to experience the rumble of the F-A18's flying over your head. I also had the opportunity to board an aircraft carrier. I have also been working at Stafford Speedway. If anyone enjoys racing, come on down (not that anyone here would, but it's worth a try).
ReplyDelete-David
I went to Maine on a mission trip, and spent two weeks at Capecod in Eastham. It was cool but I didn't do too much reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm in south Carolina for another 6 days.
ReplyDeleteBeen here a week already.
Weather today is 90, sunny, and humid with a lovely sea breeze.
I already finished my summer reading, so I found a bunch of great books to read while I sit on the beach 7 hrs a day.
I can't believe summer is almost over! This time next week we'll be back at school! wow. I just came back from the Jersey Shore down in Wildwood for a week with the family! Before that I went for my pretty much now annual trip to Ireland and got to leave my sisters and parents for a month!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from Acadia National Park two MOndays ago and then left again for Ohio that Thursday so I have had a very busy week. I officially visited Miami University on my trip (my sister goes there and I have gone there to pick her up and drop her off many rimes, but this is the first time actually looking at the school). I loved it I can already tell I'm going to have a hard decision ahead of me.
ReplyDeleteThis past week I have been quite bored. I got to spend some one-on-one time with my mom yesterday when my dad and sister went to the Pilot Penn tennis tournament. Fortunately, I love to spend time with my mom so I had a lot of fun :) Now I am getting ready for school to start. I can't believe that is in a week!
Well now that summer is almost over, the question should be 'What else did you do with your summer?' :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway I went to UConn for a week for an engineering program there and it was pretty cool. (OK, I know it's more than slightly nerdy! haha) Then I was in Deer Isle, Maine (North of Bar Harbor and right outside Acadia National Park) for two weeks in July then three weeks this August. I'm coming home tomorrow, just in time for SENIOR YEAR!!!
Stephanie - That's actually really cool! Was it an actual university-run program, like some sort of summer class? Regardless, way to get a head start :)
